Ed’s Cagers Take Control Against Ignatius

There is nothing like a red-hot basketball rivalry to warm up a cold winter night!
St. Edward and St. Ignatius brought the thermometer up to mid-summer range as they renewed their storied series last Friday night in Sullivan Gym at St. Ignatius High.
The visiting Eagles took control with a 15-point run in the second half to improve to 11-2 after the 62-46 decision. Ed’s then topped Lake Catholic Saturday for a 12-2 record.
Ignatius, now 7-6, gave the Eagles all they could handle in the fast-paced, physical game. The score remained tied at 44-44 when Ed’s went on a tear starting at the 5:44 mark of the fourth quarter. Elijah Brown caught fire for the Eagles, hitting two big three-pointers and tossing in 10 markers the final 8 minutes. Ed’s scored 15 straight points to take control
Senior Delbert Love led the Ed’s attach with 22 points while Brown followed with 16. Ed’s fiery defense made the difference in the end. The wall to wall pressure forced 25 Wildcat turnovers in a furiously paced game. The standing room only crowd at St. Ignatius High had a great respite from winter’s cold, thanks to two fine basketball teams!
