Ed’s Matmen Look for State Title

With 10 wrestlers headed to the OHSAA Div. I Championships in Columbus this weekend, the St. Edward High wrestling team is aiming for a return to the top of the podium.
Edgar Bright (112), Dean Heil (119), Nick Barber (135), Mark Martin (152), Dominec Abounader (160) and Greg Kuhar (HVY) each claimed district championships for St. Edward at Lorain last weekend, Markus Scheidel (125), Jacob Davis (171), James Suvak (189) and Ty Walz (215) finished second.
That gives Ed’s 10 wrestlers shooting for one goal: To win the 2011 OHSAA Div. I championship.
The Eagles have plenty of motivation to go along with this year’s firepower. They are out to reclaim the state title they deferred to Wadsworth in the Div. I race last year. Ed’s topped Wadsworth at last weekend’s Lorain District Tournament, but the teams will renew their heated rivalry again in Columbus with Wadsworth sending 9 qualifiers to Ed’s 10.
As Ed’s points to a return to the top of the state podium this weekend, it is interesting to note the Eagles have no seniors in the line-up this year.
