Westlake High School, under the guidance of World Language teacher Anne-Frances Zaborniak Budz, recently established its own Socieded Honoraria Hispanica, an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese.
Sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, there are about 2,000 active chapters nationally. The group recognizes high achievement of high school students in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and promotes a continuing interest in Hispanic and Luso Portuguese studies.
WHS inducted nine initial members and will add to the society in the fall. The new members are Hannah Braun, Radu Simion, Maddie Sandu, Nora Lee, Mia Licciardi, Jamie Screen, Ashwen ravichandran and Rami Kalash.
Membership is open to secondary school students who maintain an honors average in the study of Spanish or Portuguese for a minimum of three years at the high school level.
