Bay Middle School students participated in a recent 2012 Ohio Stock Market Challenge. Two seventh-grade teams won prizes by turning their $100,000 in virtual dollars into a profitable stock portfolio by buying and selling stock in real-time prices through the simulated Stock Market Challenge brokerage account. Seventh-graders Delaney McDonald and Connor Flynn won the first-place prize in the Grades 4-8 division of the competition. The final value of their portfolio was $107,528.18. Seventh-graders Makayla Minnes and Ben Andrassey took third place in the Grades 4-8 division. Their portfolio was worth $103,650.61 at the end of the game. The Cleveland Center for Economic Education and Ashland University sponsors the area competition. Bay Middle School’s winning teams were also rewarded with a pizza party for their classroom. The students’ advisor in the competition was Bay Middle School enrichment resource teacher Gina Tianello.
