Tri-C Offering Summer Cultural Travel Series for Seniors

CLEVELAND – Registration is now open for this summer’s Cultural Arts Travel Series (CATS), presented by the Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) Center for Aging Initiatives. Targeted for those 55 and older, this new program will visit two renowned Ohio musical events, in Wooster and Cincinnati.

 CATS participants will have two opportunities to enjoy Ohio Light Opera, the resident professional company of the College of Wooster, during the company’s 35th anniversary season:

 ·         Cole Porter’s Silk Stockings on Wednesday, June 26

Based on the 1939 film Ninotchka, Porter’s final Broadway show contains many musical gems: All of You, As on Through the Seasons We Sail, Paris Loves Lovers, Satin and Silk and Stereoscopic Sound. Lunch at TJ’s Restaurant in Wooster is included.

 ·         George and Ira Gershwin’s Lady Be Good on Friday, Aug. 2

Lady, Be Good! was George Gershwin’s first Broadway collaboration with brother Ira. This production brought jazz and fascinating rhythm to the Broadway stage. Gershwin “standards” include Fascinating Rhythm, So Am I, Hang on to Me,The Half of It, Dearie, Blues, Little Jazz Bird and Swiss Miss. Lunch at the Wooster Inn is included.

 The second Ohio musical event will take place during Cincinnati Opera’s 2013 Summer Festival:

 ·         Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavlier on Saturday, June 29

This great three-act comic opera is based on an original German libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Harry von Kessler. The cast highlights a trio of Cincinnati Opera favorites: Twyla Robinson, Sarah Coburn and Ruxandra Donose. Overnight accommodations will be at Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel, Cincinnati. Two lunches en route and breakfast at the hotel are also included.
