Westlake Police Weekly Blotter

It’s all in a word

A Cedarwood Dr. woman reported the theft of her $250 bike by a neighbor on April 21. The theft from a common garage occurred on April 13, and she had seen the 18-year-old male suspect riding it afterwards. When questioned, the suspect admitted “borrowing” it without asking permission, which we call “stealing”. He also reported that he had left it behind a Detroit Rd. gas station, where some unknown person took it. He was arrested for Petty Theft.

Run & You’ll Go to Jail Tired

We like to say “run, and you’ll just go to jail tired”. Two Brunswick residents (20-year-old male and 18-year-old female) ran from investigating officers at a Bradley Rd. home on April 23 at 12:54PM. The property owner had called WPD earlier about damage done to the garage by a 2003 Ford minivan the night before. That van turned out to have been stolen in Brunswick; it was impounded and since no one answered the door, a watch was set over the house. Both suspects were captured nearby. Both were charged with RSP-Motor Vehicle and Obstructing Official Business, as well as Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (marijuana pipe, scale, rolling papers).

Scammed

A Mallard Cr. woman was contacted by PayPal on April 22 regarding purchases that the company could not process, as well as an IPad cover she did not order. She then received a $358 bill (for four eBay transactions) the next day. She has closed her accounts with both firms.

Profit Motive

On April 23, a Halsted Ln. man reported that he had given a 37-year-old Lorain man $3000 back on April 1 to buy a car in NY. They would then sell it here at a tidy profit. The Lorain man has not purchased any car, given the Westlake man his money back, or returned the Westlake man’s calls. The Lorain man claims that he broke off the deal and returned the money. The City Prosecutor will rule on any potential charges.

Mean Drunk

An intoxicated 50-year-old woman reported an altercation with her male roommate at 6:29PM on April 26. She had bicycled off when officers arrived at their Detroit Rd residence. A Weymouth Cr. resident found her passed out on the grass at his apartment complex 30 mins. later and called police. The female admitted drinking a bottle of vodka and taking Rx medicines; she was transported to St. John Medical Center by WFD and will receive a DCI summons in the mail.

Discounted Inventory

2 male suspects took shopping baskets filled with merchandise from a Center Ridge Rd. drugstore without paying on April 27 at 6:36PM. Their car was spotted by a WPD officer as it entered I90 eastbound. Even with the assistance of Rocky River PD, the suspects failed to stop when signaled and drove very recklessly. The pursuit was called off at the Hilliard Blvd. interchange. Investigation revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle was one of the suspects involved; an inventory is being conducted to determine the items taken and their value.

Clothes Make the Man

A tuxedo-clad 18-year-old Westlake man was found passed out by the homeowner in a Brantwood Dr. backyard on April 28 at 8:18AM. He was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DCI. His finery was accessorized with his own upchuck.
