Following is Westlake Porter Public Library’s June, 2013 Calendar of Events.

Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19 and 26 (10:15-10:45 a.m. or 11-11:30 a.m.) Let’s Sing and Dance! — Join us for a fun session of singing and dancing for children ages 2-6 with a caregiver. Space is limited, so please arrive early enough to receive a ticket at the Preschool Desk.

Wednesday, June 5 (1-2:30 p.m.) Cuyahoga West Genealogical Society—Stuck on your genealogical research? Not sure how to get started? Stop by for a free Help Session!

Thursday, June 6 (4-4:30 p.m.) Grow Your Own Treats!—Learn about vegetable gardening and plant seeds in a take-home container so you can grow your own treats! Ages 7-10. Please register starting May 30.

Thursday, June 6 (7-8:30 p.m.) Investor Interest Group—Les Szarka presents Mind Over Money. Join us for a deeper look into the behavior behind the financial decisions you make every day. Please register.

Friday, June 7 (12-4 p.m.) Mario Kart Wii Tournament—Join WPPL and Game Stop for our Mario Kart Wii Tournament! Grades 6-12. Registration begins on May 31.

Fridays, June 7 and July 5 (1:30-2:30 p.m.) Saturdays, June 22 and July 20 (10:30-11:30 a.m.) Pokemon League—Bring your cards and accessories for a fun morning of play! For kids ages 6-12 only. Please, no younger siblings. Registration begins on May 31.

Saturday, June 8 (10:30-11 a.m.) Mother Goose on the Loose!—Join Mother Goose for this interactive storytime featuring simple books, rhymes, songs and movement. For ages birth-3 years old with adult caregiver. No registration.

Saturday, June 8 (3-4:45 p.m.) Mad4Manga – Do you love Manga, Anime or Japanese culture? If you do, this club is for you! Each month we watch a different Anime series and talk about our favorite Manga. Sometimes we even throw in some crafts, Manga drawing or Japanese treats just for fun! Grades 6 – 12 only. Registration not necessary.

Sunday, June 9 (1:30-2:30 p.m.) Zumba for Teens—Zumba is a fun workout that combines elements of several types of dance. Please wear comfortable workout attire and good gym/tennis shoes, and bring a towel and a water bottle. Grades 6-12. Registration begins on June 2.

Sundays, June 9 and July 7 (2:30-3:30 p.m.) schWii-nanigans!—Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of Wii fun and games! Ages 6-11. Registration begins on June 2.

Sundays, June 9 and July 7 (3-4 p.m.) ZumbAtomics—ZumbAtomics is a high-energy fitness party packed with dance. Ages 7-10. Registration begins on June 2.

Mondays, June 10 & July 8 (2-3:30 p.m.) Let’s Build!—Explore your architectural side as we build with a variety of bricks and blocks. Grades K-5. Registration begins on June 3.

Monday, June 10 (7-8 p.m.) Celebrate Flag Day!—Celebrate our flag with stories, songs, a craft and a patriotic treat! Ages 6-10. Registration begins on June 3.

Week of June 11 Summer Storytimes Begin — Please note that there will be no Storytimes the week of July 4! No registration is necessary, but group size is

limited to 58. Storytimes are as follows:

LAPSIT STORYTIME-Join us for songs, rhymes and play! For ages Birth-24 months with caregiver.

Tuesdays (9:30 a.m.)

TODDLER STORYTIME-Join us for stories, rhymes, activities and songs. For ages 2-3 1/2 with caregiver.

Tuesdays (10:15 a.m.)

GROWING READERS PRESCHOOL STORYTIME– Join us for a 30-minute early-literacy based storytime, then stay after for literacy activities for ages 3 1/2 to 5.

Tuesday, June 11 (7 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Discussion—This month we’ll discuss The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan.

Tuesday, June 11 (7-7:30 p.m.) Sweet Summer Sing-along—You’re invited to our family sing-along! Have fun singing rhymes and songs about your favorite treats! No registration.

Tuesday, June 11 (7-8 p.m.) Burning River Roller Girls—The Burning River Roller Girls roller derby team will discuss roller derby and demonstrate their moves! They’ll be joined by the RockStars junior derby team. Program will take place in the library’s parking lot.

Wednesday, June 12 (3-4:30 p.m.) Printmaking with Felt and More!—Use printmaking techniques to create a custom design for a new addition to your wardrobe! Bring a clean, 100% cotton t-shirt, hat, pair of shorts, or tote bag to decorate! Grades 9-12. Registration begins on June 5.

Wednesday, June 12 (7-8:30 p.m.) Proposal Writing Basics—Learn the steps of writing a thorough grant proposal, from planning and research to writing to following up. Please register.

Thursday, June 13 (1:30-3 p.m.) BSA Reading Merit Badge—Start and finish the Boy Scouts of America Reading Merit Badge at the library. Remember your blue card! Ages 10-17. Sign up once for both sessions. (Second session takes place on August 8.)

Thursday, June 13 (2-2:50 p.m.) Beginning Origami for Kids—Learn the basics of origami with Jenn Cline! All supplies will be provided! Grades 3-5. Registration begins on June 6.

Thursday, June 13 (3-4:30 p.m.) Origami for Teens—Jenn Cline will teach us some more advanced origami. We’ll be making a cool modular origami project that can even move! All supplies provided! Grades 6-12. Registration begins on June 6.

Thursday, June 13 (6:30-7:30 p.m.) Superman Day!—Test your might with our Superman challenges and games while enjoying some Supermanly entertainment! Grades K-3. Registration begins on June 6.

Thursday, June 13 (7 p.m.) Non-Fiction Book Discussion—The June selection is All the Money in the World by Laura Vanderkam.

Friday, June 14 (10:30-11:30 a.m.) iPad Users Group —Share easy tips with other iPad users. Please bring your iPad with you. Please register starting May 31.

Fridays, June 14 and 28 (10-10:45 a.m.) Come Play With Me! —Open playtime with age-appropriate toys, songs and rhymes. For children ages 2-5 with a caring adult. Registration begins one week before each program.

Fridays, June 14, 21 and 28 (2-3:30 p.m.) Movies @ Your Library—Join us for some fun summer films! All ages welcome. In accordance with library policy children under age 9 must have a parent/adult guardian present. All movies are rated PG. Titles* include:

June 14: When the evil spirit Pitch tries to take over the world, it’s up to the guardians of childhood to stop him.

June 21: It’s high adventure when the toys on the west side of the attic must rescue Buttercup from the Land of Evil on the east side.

June 28: In 1910 Paris, a shy movie projectionist and a colorful inventor find themselves on the hunt for a monster.

Saturday, June 15 (2-2:30 p.m.) Junior Brick Builders!—Let’s build with Duplos! Bring your imagination and we’ll provide the bricks. Ages 3-5 only. Registration begins June 8.

Monday, June 17 (2-2:45 p.m.) Cupcake Fun!—Join us for cupcake themed stories, a fun craft and other sweet activities! All supplies provided. Ages 6-8. Registration begins June 10.

Monday, June 17 (7-8:30 p.m.) Monday Night Movie—Academy Award-winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren portray famed director Alfred Hitchcock and his wife during the filming of Psycho. Rated PG-13. Please register.

Tuesday, June 18 (6-7 p.m.) Pizza Taste-off —Be part of the fun as we try out pizza from all the different pizza places in and around Westlake, then vote on who has the best (and worst) pizza in the area! Grades 6-12. Registration begins on June 11.

Tuesday, June 18 (7-8:30 p.m.) Civil War and Cleveland—Dr. Pershy from the Western Reserve Historical Society will focus on daily life as he discusses how Cleveland was affected by the ravages of the American Civil War. Please register.

Tuesday, June 18 (7-7:45 p.m.) Comedy Juggling with Aaron Bonk—Get ready to be amazed and amused by Aaron Bonk’s juggling skills and humor! Free tickets available June 11 in the Youth Services Department.

Wednesday, June 19 (6:30-8:45 p.m.) Cuyahoga West Genealogical Society—Topic: Genealogical Roundtable Sharing.

Thursday, June 20 (2-2:45 p.m.) If You Give a Dog a Donut…—…there’s no telling what will happen! Join Dog and friends for an afternoon celebration filled with sweet stories, games and a craft. Ages 3-5. Registration begins on June 13.

Thursday, June 20 (7-8:30 p.m.) In the Kitchen with Cleveland’s Favorite Chefs—Maria Isabella, author of the book In the Kitchen with Cleveland’s Favorite Chefs, will discuss her book and what local chefs prepare at home. There will also be some samples. Please register.

Saturdays, June 22 and 29 (2:30-3:30 p.m.) Brick Builders Club – Love those LEGO bricks? Then bring your ideas and imagination to the club! All bricks provided. Ages 6-13. Registration begins one week before each session.

Saturday, June 22 (3:45-5:15 p.m.) Wii-stravaganza! – Join us for games, tournaments, snacks and fun! Grades 6-12. Please register starting June 15.

Sunday, June 23 (1:30-3:30 p.m.) American Girl Summer!—Meet Molly, an American Girl! We’ll talk about life in America during WWII, watch the Molly movie and make homemade ice cream! Ages 6-10. Registration begins on June 16.

Monday, June 24 (2-2:45 p.m.) For the Birds!—Give your feathered friends a treat in a cool bird feeder you make and decorate! Ages 7-10. Registration begins on June 17. Allergy warning: Peanut butter will be used in program.

Tuesday, June 25 (2-3 p.m.) Pinterest How-To for Teens!—We’ll show you the ins and outs of using Pinterest, the newest social media trend! No need to already have an account, we’ll go over that too. Grades 6-12. Registration begins on June 18.

Wednesday, June 26 (2 p.m.) Wednesday Afternoon Book Discussion — June’s selection is The Gilded Age by Claire McMillan.

Thursday, June 27 (2-3 p.m.) Pinterest Craft Day—We’ll select some of the most popular crafts from Pinterest, set out all the materials needed and let the fun begin! All supplies provided. Grades 6-12. Registration begins on June 20.

Thursday, June 27 (7-8:45 p.m.) Westlake Historical Society—The Western Reserve Historical Society will present The Home Recreation Room 1920-60.

Friday, June 28 (10 a.m.-Noon) Porter’s Fiber Fanatics – Socialize, share, and solve problems while you work on your current project.

Saturday, June 29 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) Crafts A Go-Go! — Come on in and make a craft! We provide the supplies – you provide the creativity. No registration necessary. Meets in front of the Youth Services Desk.
