The Northeast Ohio Community Joins to Raise Funds for the Sixth Annual We Love Jeremy Golf Outing

AVON – Members of the community are invited to participate in the Jeremy Cares Sixth Annual We Love Jeremy Golf Outing on Saturday, August 10, at Bob-O-Link Golf Course in Avon. This non-profit, based in Northeast Ohio, coordinates an annual golf outing to raise funds towards supporting families dealing with pediatric, adolescent, and young adult medical crises. Jeremy Cares Inc. is a grassroots organization run solely by volunteers. This structure allows 100 percent of the proceeds to directly benefit the organization’s services for the community. Last year, the event raised just under $20,000. Over the last four years, organizers and members of the community have raised over $70,000. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will be used to support families and patients being treated at University Hospitals (UH) Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s Division of Hematology and Oncology.

“We are extremely grateful for the services and generosity the Jeremy Cares organization provides to our Rainbow patients and families,” said Shari Racut, Manager, Family and Child Life Services, at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. “It is amazing to see the hope and resiliency that emerges in our families’ lives when people, even complete strangers, extend kindness during times of need.”

Jeremy George was a 17-year-old high school senior when doctors diagnosed him with an aggressive form of leukemia. While being treated at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital he suffered a relapse and required a life-saving stem cell transplant. Doctors completed the procedure around Christmas in 2008.  His family was overwhelmed by the support they received. They didn’t know how they would pay everyone back, so they decided to pay it forward. In 2011, that’s when family and friends formed Jeremy Cares Inc. Jeremy is now four and a half years in remission and a student at Kent State University.

“When asked what we do, I simply say that we do our best to create moments of joy,” said Debbie George, Jeremy Cares Inc. President and co-founder. “When somebody knows they are cared about, it helps create hope. A lot of these families are living in the moment, so why not give them something good to feel and remember when they look back on their journey. “

Beacon Financial Partners, a financial wealth advisory firm in Beachwood will be this year’s We Love Jeremy Golf Outing sponsor. “We saw the difficulties Jeremy and his family endured during his battle with pediatric leukemia, and we want to help other kids and families facing similar challenges,” said Greg Randall, Managing Partner.

This year’s Sixth Annual We Love Jeremy Golf Outing will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The cost per foursome is $340. Sponsorships of all levels are available beginning at $100. About Jeremy Cares Inc.

Founded on the philosophy of paying it forward, Jeremy Cares Inc. is focused on enriching the lives of families with children who have serious illnesses by promoting emotional and social healing. Volunteers work to support and help families regain feelings of control, improve self-image, and diminish the stresses that illness creates. Services include throwing parties at the hospital, providing the social work and family and child life services divisions with gifts for children, adolescents and young adults to use throughout the year, providing pediatric cancer survivors with college care packages when heading off to school, and providing gifts for entire families who have children hospitalized over the holiday season at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s Division of Hematology and Oncology.
