The “Community of Fine Arts” opens on August 5 and continues for public viewing through August 17 at Westlake Porter Library, 27333 Center Ridge Road, during library hours.

For the second year in a row, CFA, a juried art show presented annually by the Westlake-Westshore Arts Council, set a record for the largest collection of works since it began 14 years ago.

Jean Povinelli, who chairs this event, said over 110 original works, by amateur and professional artists were accepted from 57 artists. The works are one of a kind and have not been previously exhibited in this show.

During the art show, artists whose works are exhibited are giving live demonstrations of their techniques.  A schedule of the artists’ demonstrations is displayed in the lobby of the library where the demonstrations take place.

The public is invited to a “Meet the Artists” reception on Saturday, August 17, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The accepted entries were judged in four categories: Oil/Acrylic; Watercolor; Charcoal/Pastel/Pencil/Ink; Photography.   A $150.00 cash award is made for the first place choice in each of the categories.  Honorable Mention certificates were also awarded as determined by the judges. The judges for the 2013 show are:

Paul St. Denis, nationally acclaimed watercolorist, is a Dolphin Fellow of the prestigious American Watercolor Society and a member of the National Watercolor Society.  He is listed in Who’s Who in American Art as a painter and educator.

Dave Stretar is past president of Erie Shores Photography Club and past officer of the Northeast Ohio Camera Club Council.

Patricia Sigmier teaches water color painting, life drawing and botanical illustration at the Beck Center and she teaches plein air painting at the Case Western Reserve University’s Continuing Education Department.

The mission of the Westlake-Westshore Arts Council is to bring art to the public in a non-commercial setting. With the cooperation of Westlake Porter Library, The Community of Fine Arts is free and open to all.
