Lorain County Breastfeeding Coalition hosts Second Annual 5K Milk Run

The Lorain County Breastfeeding Coalition (LCBC) is pleased to be celebrating World Breastfeeding Week by hosting the Second Annual 5K Milk Run and 1 Mile Family  Fun Run/Walk.  This event will take place on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Lorain

County Community College with on-site registration starting at 8 AM.  The 5K goes off at 9 AM and the Family Run 9:10 AM.  Online registration is available now at www.hermescleveland.com/roadracing .

The event is to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and raise funds for the Mother’s Milk Bank of Ohio and the LCBC.  Breastfeeding is the best way to get babies off to the healthiest start as well as the most economical method for families and the most “green” for our environment. Breastmilk is the optimal ingredient for healthy growth & development and reduced illnesses in full term babies and is especially important for  premature infants.  Last year the Milk Bank dispensed 223,623 ounces of donor milk!

About 10% went to outpatients and the remainder to hospitalized patients.  The Milk Bank received 287,186 ounces of donor milk from participating mothers!

The Lorain County Breastfeeding Coalition is a non-profit organization that was started in October of 2006 as a group of breastfeeding advocates dedicated to the promotion of breastfeeding education and successful breastfeeding experiences for mothers and their infants throughout Lorain County.  The group continues to focus on its mission: to educate our community on the importance of promoting, preserving and protecting breastfeeding.

Come and join us in promoting a healthy lifestyle while focusing awareness on the importance of breastfeeding for the health of mothers and infants as well as for the good of the environment.
