Lorna McLain to increase outreach to Spanish-speaking community, kicks off outreach with Friedman Legacy Day celebration

CLEVELAND, Ohio (July 31, 2013) –School Choice Ohio is pleased to announce its hire of Lorna McLain, who joins the organization in the role of Community Outreach Coordinator. Based in Cleveland, McLain will work to increase community awareness about the state’s school choice options in the northern Ohio region. McLain is bilingual and will also focus efforts on educating Spanish-speaking families statewide about their education options.

“We are thrilled to have Lorna as a member of the School Choice Ohio team,” said School Choice Ohio Executive Director Matt Cox. “She is driven and committed to helping parents find a great school that is a great fit for their children, and we are lucky to have her working on behalf of Ohio’s students and their families.”

McLain comes to School Choice Ohio with a diverse background in education. She has experience in the areas of special education, early childhood education, bilingual education and adult education. She sits on the board of the Hispanic Business Center and Spanish Language Advisory Committee for the Board of Elections. McLain holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Education with a minor in Spanish from Cleveland State University.

“I am excited to work with families across the state to make sure that children are receiving a quality education that best fits their needs,” said McLain. “I understand the importance of education and empowering Ohio families to demand an excellent education for their children. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build a solid network of families, schools, community organizations and school choice supporters in northern Ohio that will help spread the word about school choice.”

In one of her first events in Cleveland, McLain will meet with community organizations today on Friedman Legacy Day, in honor of school choice pioneer Milton Friedman.

School Choice Ohio will also be hosting school choice celebrations in Columbus and Cincinnati in honor of Friedman Legacy Day. The events are being co-sponsored by the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, a group founded by Dr. Friedman and his wife, Rose. School Choice Ohio’s events are just three of the more than 140 events that will take place worldwide today celebrating Dr. Friedman’s legacy.
