The SOUPer Bowl battle to benefit the CRS Food Drive was a hit at Friday’s Avon-Avon Lake football game as supporters of both communities filled a truck load of provisions for area needs.
Lily Alten, President Avon High Student Council, accepted the trophy as Avon walked away as the winner of the heated contest.
$11,142.19 was collected, along with 4,520 pounds of non-perishable pantry items. Based on the calculation that every $1 equals 5 pounds of food, the total food equivalent raised was 60,231 pounds.
Although Avon was the winner of the 4th Annual SOUPer Bowl, the real winner is CRS and the families that are served in Avon and Avon Lake.
“The success of the food drive is a true testament to what a wonderful community that we live in. Having so many people step up to contribute in the very generous way that they did is truly incredible,” said Pam Ohradzansky, CRS representative.
