Graduating Westlake High School senior Rudy Keppler was accepted for the Congress-Bundestag Vocational Youth Exchange program that will offer him a chance to attend a year of school in Germany, participate in a vocational program and expose him to work experience through an internship with a Germany company.
Annually more than 300 American high school students receive full scholarships to become exchange students to Germany. The program is supported by the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag.
Rudy will receive two months of intensive language preparation upon arrival in Germany at the end of June before being assigned to a host family and school. He is hoping to study in the areas of international business, petroleum engineering or forestry. The family/school experience is designed to provide integration into German society, more fully prepare students to communicate in German, offer opportunities to meet other young people and prepare students for internships.
Rudy was nominated for the program by his German teacher, Kristen Harter. He underwent a highly selective process that included interviews. For more information on the exchange program visit
