Westlake Recreation Summer Programs

Westlake Recreation Center logoPee Wee Softball (ages 4-5) This popular program is back and is designed for children not in Kindergarten.  Must turn 4 by June 1st and not 6 before August 1st.  Children will learn the basics of the game.  Hitting is done by underhand coach pitch.  A batting tee will be available upon request. Program runs 2 days a week for 45 minutes each day.  Check our gazette for more details.  Program starts June 23rd or 24th.

Youth Basketball Skills, Drills & Fun (Grades completed K-4) This program combines skills and drills with game action.  Each practice will feature a designed drill play for the day with the other half of practice full of game time experience.  Boys & Girls will participate on different days. Program starts June 23rd or 24th.

Soccer Camp with Coach Mike Besu(ages 5-14) camp is designed for kids who want to work on their soccer skills between seasons.  Receive instruction from WHS coach Mike Besu and area high school players.  Campers should bring a water bottle, spikes and shin guards with them.  Weekly sessions include 6/17-6/20, 7/14-7/18 & 8/4-8/8.  All sessions held at the Westlake Recreation Center soccer fields.

41st Annual Phil Bova Baseball Camp (ages 7-14) Coach Phil Bova leads a staff with over 200 years of coaching experience.  This camp includes a daily lunch, shirt and cap.  Campers will be taught all aspects of the game.  For more information please check out their website atwww.bovacamps.com.  June 23-27.

Summer Day Camp (Entering Grades 1-6) Our popular summer day camp has been redesigned to embrace the active nature of the Recreation Center. Each week will focus on incorporating a sport or other activity element into daily activities.  Lunch and a snack are now included, children will need to bring a towel and swim suit with them daily.  Please consult our Rec Gazette for more information and pricing.  The first week of camp will be June 9th –June 13th.

The Westlake Baseball School (ages 7-14) Former St. Edward High School Varsity Baseball coach John Whelan heads this program.  The focus will be on improving your child’s fielding, hitting and throwing technique.  There will be a special 2-hour clinic to start and then weekly classes to follow.  Check out our website for more information.  Clinic will be held on Wednesday June 18th.

Girls Open Gym Basketball (Grades 5-6) This unique program is to allow girls in grades 5 & 6 to come up and just play basketball.  5 on 5 pick up games will be held each week.  There are no set teams, practice etc.  Session runs on Mondays from 6/16-7/21 6:30-8:00.
