A suspect armed with a small black semi-automatic handgun tried to take a motorist’s radar detector on June 10 at 10:10PM, report Westlake Police. The Vermillion man had stopped for the signal on Columbia Rd. at Hilliard Blvd. when the suspect leaned in the open passenger window and grabbed at the detector. The driver then hit the gas and the suspect ran off eastbound on Hilliard Blvd. The suspect is described as a black male late 20s-early 30s, has a goatee, apprx. 5’8’ thin build wearing a black ballcap and t-shirt, blue jeans.
An alert clerk at a Center Ridge Rd. gas station spotted a fake driver’s license on June 10 at 11:30PM. It was presented to buy beer by a male who turned out to be an 18-year-old Rocky River man; he fled when the clerk questioned him about it. The suspect was tracked down at home; he had been drinking at a party and will receive a summons for Underage Attempted Purchase.
A motorist watched a 16-year-old Bay Village boy placed traffic cones across both northbound lanes of the Columbia Rd. overpass on June 11 at 12:27AM and called WPD. The suspect was found nearby and admitted what he had done. He was also carrying a knife; he was turned over to his displeased mom and will appear in Juv. Court for Carrying Various Weapons and Placing Injurious Materials in Roadway.
A fire extinguisher was discharged by an unknown suspect on June 8 at 7:30PM in a Detroit Rd. building. This set off the fire alarm, requiring a WFD response.
The development sign for the Savannah Estates subdivision was stolen sometime June 7-9 from its location at Detroit Rd. and Savannah Pkwy. An employee of the construction company working in the area noted the theft; no suspects.
Two Westlake boys were spat on and punched as they walked along Center Ridge Rd. on June 10 at 4:14PM. The front seat passenger of a newer dark color Chevy Cruze is the suspect; he is unknown to the victims.
An 18-year-old Maple Hts. woman stole an Iphone belonging to an Akron woman on June 9 at 10:24PM at Dave and Busters. The victim had set it down and forgotten about it. The suspect was charged with Petty Theft.
