Fun was had by all at the 21st Triumph for the Cure Golf Outing to benefit the Breast Health Center at Fairview Hospital on Monday, June 23.
Golfers gathered at Westwood Country Club for a great time on the links, and then convened for the luncheon highlighted by keynote speaker Amanda McGraw.
Amanda, an attorney, gave a moving testimonial capturing her fight with breast cancer. Her story began with the importance of an early baseline mammogram, and then continued to cover her story of diagnosis, surgery and recovery.
Her video highlights of a trip to country star Tim McGraw’s appearance at Blossom Music Center offered a moving tribute to the spirit of recovery. It included a shot of McGraw meeting Amanda at the stage of his Blossom concert and planting a kiss on her bald head. A year later, Amanda was able to meet McGraw again at a pre-concert event where he once again noted her courage and helped celebrate her recovery.
Amanda’s physician, Dr. Debra Pratt, Medical Director of the Breast Center at Fairview Hospital, also spoke. She reprised the importance of an early mammogram for all women. Reiterating Amanda’s experience, it was a baseline mammogram Amanda had done prior to turning 40 that allowed a timely diagnosis of her later cancerous lesion. The ability to compare mammograms led to an important early diagnosis of Amanda’s cancer that may well have saved her life.
Dr. Neil Smith, President of Fairview Hospital, made a special appearance to pay tribute to important sponsorship provided by Triumph for the Cure supporters.
Thank you to all who participated in this year’s Triumph for the Cure, especially RPM International Inc., for helping Community West Foundation to Illuminate Hope in the community!
