Avon Sweeps Final West Shore Conference Track Championships

Both the Avon High boys and girls track teams closed out the final West Shore Conference track championships in fine style last week, claiming team titles on the oval behind Avon Middle School.

Avon’s boys rolled up 157 points and girls totaled 189.5 on the memorable night.

The Lady Eagles were dominant with wins from their 400 meter relay (Jessica Yurkovich, Lexie Firment, Sydnie Firment, Kamryn Sharer), 800 meter relay (Hailey Acosta, Caroline Miller, Regan Betts, Kamryn Sharer) and 1,600 meter relay (Hailey Acosta, Regan Betts, Lexie Firment, Emily Joyce) teams. Kamryn Sharer also won the 100 meter hurdles for Avon.

Bay’s Olivia Bechtel was terrific with four wins, taking the long jump, 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.

Avon’s boys were paced by Mitch Cooper in the high jump (6-2) and Kyle Longrich in the pole vault (13-06).

Track winners for Avon included Sean Kane in the 1600 meter run (4:33) the 400 meter relay team (Alec Damasiewicz, Garret Choat, Zach Torbert, Jake Bitter) 43.64, and the 800 meter relay team Garret Choar, Zach Torbert, Jake Bitter, Michael Nose) 1:31.84.
