Four Westlake High School Graduates Receive Scholarship

Westlake Demons Athletic Boosters (WDAB) is proud to announce four recent Westlake High School graduates and recipients of the 2016 WDAB Scholarship: Rebecca Essig, Jacob Kraft, Rebecca Prexta, and William Reilly. Each recipient exhibited athletic prowess and leadership on and off the fields in their respective sports at Westlake High School and received a $500 scholarship from WDAB.

Essig was a member of Westlake High School’s varsity soccer, basketball and track teams. She received numerous awards in the Southwest Conference and was a member of the All Greater Cleveland, All Star Ohio and Basketball Coaches Association. Essig led both WHS varsity soccer and basketball teams into the SWC and district playoffs. Essig will go on to study at The Ohio State University in the fall of 2016.

Kraft was a member of Westlake High School’s Cross County, Wrestling and Track teams and 10-time varsity letter man. He received the Sportsmanship Awards on numerous Westlake athletic teams in addition to qualifying for regional competition in Track and Cross Country. Kraft will attend the University of Illinois in the fall of 2016.

Prexta participated and excelled in both soccer and swimming at Westlake High School. She was a four-time district qualifier and participated at the state level in swimming her senior year. She accumulated numerous swimming awards in 2016 including 1st team all-conference; SWC Champion in 100 butterfly; and News Channel 5 McDonald’s Student Athlete of the Week (2016). Prexta will be going to Ashland University in the fall where she will continue her swimming career.

Reilly is a multi-sport letter man in soccer, track, football and cross country. He was the 2015 WHS Football Scholar Athlete as well as the 2015 WHS Track and Field MVP. Reilly will attend The University of Akron to study business.

The Westlake Demons Athletic Boosters (WDAB) is a community-based organization established with an ALL ATHLETICS/ONE GOAL approach of supporting Westlake City School athletic teams in grades 7-12. WDAB strives to provide equipment, uniforms, scoreboards, athletic structures, etc. – via the fundraising efforts of its members, parents, the greater Westlake community, and local businesses.

While WDAB is a separate entity from Westlake City Schools and its athletic departments, it supports the activities and needs of our interscholastic athletes and athletic programs. WDAB is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit charitable organization and strictly run by a group of dedicated volunteers.
