Bay Village interim Mayor Gary Ebert has tendered his resignation to the mayoral post today and has announced that City Council President Paul Koomar will become Mayor of Bay Village as of Jan. 1.
In his letter to City Council, Ebert writes:
“This letter shall serve as my resignation of my position as Mayor effective Dec. 31, 2016. I indicated I would serve as Mayor until such time as either Council President Koomar decided to assume the position or to fill in until the next municipal election.
“Council President Paul Koomar has decided to serve as Mayor effective Jan. 1., 2017 and therefore upon my resignation the provisions of Section 3.9 pf the Bay Village City Charter shall prevail which specifically designates upon resignation of the Mayor the President of Council shall become the Mayor and serve until a successor is elected.
“I want to thank everyone for their support these past months. I have attempted to initiate open communication and transparency among Administration, Directors and Council as we move forward in 2017. Also, I have indicated several projects and programs which I feel are going to better our community and I look forward to being part of the team moving forward.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve the residents of Bay Village.
“Very truly yours,
“Gary A. Ebert”
Mr. Ebert continues to serve as the city’s Law Director.
