Avon Bike Parade Celebrates Patriotic Holiday

Nothing says Fourth of July like a good, old-fashioned Bike Parade.

In Avon, the community’s second annual Great Annual Bike Parade kicked off in all its patriotic glory the morning of July 4th at the city’s Aquatic Center.

Councilwoman Tammy Holtzmeier welcomed about 500 participants, approximately double the turnout of last year’s inaugural event. Now an instant classic, paraders followed a fire truck up the Aquatic Center Drive and around Healthway drive before heading back to the Center where Mayor Bryan Jensen was on hand to offer complimentary day passes to the pool to participants.

Grand Marshall this year was Avon Middle School teacher Tim Wearsch, who biked from California to Washington, D.C. last summer. The trek was a fundraising effort to benefit the Prayers From Maria Foundation. He accepted the honor from last year’s grand marshall Jack McBride.
