Westlake Senior Citizens Scammed in ‘Phone Bail’ Scheme

Two senior citizens have lost $3000 total in the past two days to callers who pretended to be friends or family needing bail money, report Westlake Police.

The calls originated in Canada and had the victims buy gift cards and read off the numbers.

According to Police, “No jail takes gift cards or ITunes cards for bond. Be like President Reagan; trust but verify. Check with relatives before sending funds in any fashion. The suspects hope to hurry you into quick action without reflection. By validating the story first, you will keep your hard-earned money and make these villains say ‘Curses! Foiled again!'”

Please look in on your loved one and remind them that phone scams are very real.
