Avon Lake High School Announces New Principal

During a special meeting of the Avon Lake City Schools Board of Education July 31, members approved a one-year contract for Joseph J. Mueller to become the new principal at Avon Lake High School.**

A veteran educator, Mueller most recently served as principal at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. Additional career experiences include teaching, coaching and administrative positions in Cleveland, West Geauga and Perry school districts. Mueller replaces Dr. Brad Cocco who will continue to remain in the school district as a teacher at Troy Intermediate School.

As a principal, Mueller has pursued best-practice professional growth with internationally-renowned researchers for more than 20 years. He is committed to inspiring everyone to “get better every day.”

“Joe has an outstanding record and has been hired to lead Avon Lake High School forward in a positive manner, and to be a positive contributor to the district leadership team,” said Robert Scott, Avon Lake City Schools superintendent.

Mueller received bachelor and master degrees in history and political science from Kent State University. His educational administration licensure is from Cleveland State University.

As a former Southwestern Conference principal, Mueller is familiar with the excellence of the Avon Lake City Schools and is excited for the opportunity to contribute as principal of Avon Lake High School.

Mueller and his wife, Renee, reside in Lodi where they raise alpacas and quarter horses. The couple have two children and five grandchildren.

** The community is invited to join us on Aug. 7 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Daniel B. Ross Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Avon Lake High School, 175 Avon Belden Road, to meet Joseph J. Mueller.
