Senior Saved from ‘Grandma Scam’ in Bay

On 08/10/2017, at 1332 hrs, an employee from a local drug store called BVPD to report a possible fraud.  The store had an elderly customer who was attempting to purchase $250.00 worth of “Streaming” gift cards.  Police spoke with the customer who claimed she received a phone call from a male in New York telling her she had won a $9,600.00 grant for being a good citizen, but she needed $250.00 in gift cards to pay the taxes before she could collect her winnings.  She was advised it was a scam and did not lose any money.

OVI Alert Leads to 3 Car Wreck

Westlake Police reported a possible OVI on Clague Rd. heading into Bay Village on Aug. 11 at 2019 hours.  

At the same time, a motorist called BVPD to report a three car accident on Clague Rd. at Wolf Rd.  

Upon arrival officers discovered, the driver at fault was the possible OVI, which Westlake Police had reported.  While investigating the crash, Bay Village Police officers suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol/drugs.  Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the 60-year old Cleveland resident arrested for OVI.  He will face charges at RRMC.

Bike Theft

On 08/09/2017, at 2012 hrs, a resident in the 400 block of Dover Center called BVPD to report she had just caught a male who was stealing a bike from her yard.  She yelled at the male as he was riding away, and he proceeded to drop the bike before fleeing the scene on foot.  Officers located a male matching the description walking down East Oviatt.  The male confessed to taking the bike in an attempt to impress his friends.  The 18-yoa Westlake resident will face charges at RRMC.

Check Fraud

On 08/11/2017, at 2141 hrs, an Oakmoor resident contacted BVPD to report someone fraudulently cashed one of her Fifth Third checks for almost $400.00.  Police are investigating.

OVI

On 08/09/2017, at 0150 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Lake Rd. near Parkside for a traffic violation.  Upon speaking with the female driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking.  Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the 37-yoa Bay Village resident was arrested for OVI.  She will face charges at RRMC.
