53rd Annual Band-A-Rama Showcases Marching Band Talent

Avon Lake High School Marching Shoremen

The Avon Lake High School Marching Shoremen will host the 53rd Annual Band-A-Rama, a showcase of local high school marching bands, on Saturday, September 30, at Avon Lake Memorial Stadium, 175 Avon Belden Road at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $8 for general admission and are available at the door.

Sponsored by Rettig Music, this year’s Band-A-Rama will be an OMEA Adjudicated Marching Band event. The Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) is the principal organization in Ohio promoting music education in elementary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities. The OMEA sanctions marching band festivals in the State of Ohio in hopes of providing a broad-based opportunity for marching units of the state’s schools to participate in an educational setting. It is hoped that the adjudicated festival situation would be one in which viable comments and suggestions are offered in a positive, constructive manner to each group and a fair evaluation of the group’s performance is reflected within the Ohio Five Rating Plan. Ohio bands receiving a final rating of “I” (Superior) in any of the 63 OMEA-sanctioned local marching band adjudicated events held this fall are eligible to participate in State Marching Band Finals.

Rettig Music serves the educational music community from five Ohio locations, including 26469 Center Ridge Road in Westlake. Rettig Music specializes in instrumental sales, rentals, and repairs. They carry a complete line of marching band and guard accessories, and have a full print music department in its Westlake location.

The Avon Lake community and its schools take great pride in their music programs. The community is often recognized by NAMM as one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” in the United States.
