FYI: Opera Glimpses a Cleveland Premiere

On Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m., an FYI: Opera program will present a tantalizing preview of Medea, the opera by Luigi Cherubini, at Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Road.

FYI: Opera, sponsored by the Westlake-Westshore Arts Council, will offer a generous helping of Medea’s high drama, which will have a Northern Ohio premiere performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Kulas Hall in November.

David Bamberger, Artistic Director of the Cleveland Institute of Music Opera Theater, will bring four talented singers, who will star in CIM’s November production. These CIM voice students are: Nayoung Yeo of Seoul, Korea, singing the title role of Medea; Meg Linebough of Columbus, OH, singing Neris, Medea’s confidante; Andrea Gadzinski of Virginia Beach, VA, singing Glauce, Medea’s rival; and Aaron Lange of Portland, Oregon, singing Jason, Medea’s husband.

Cherubini’s Medea is recognized as one of the vehicles Maria Callas famously used to bring bel canto operas back into the modern repertoire.

The Oct. 3 FYI: Opera program is offered FREE to the public by the WWAC, which has sponsored this series of programs for over 25 years. Cleveland’s premiere full performance of Medea at CIM’s Kulas Hall in University Circle is November 8 -11. Information and tickets are available through CIM. Call 216-795-3211.
