Superheros Save Avon!

The City of Avon and Mayor Bryan Jensen were saved by Superheroes on Sat., Sept. 16 as the community was invaded by comic book evil-doers who had to be turned away by a cast of terrific kids.

The event was a partnership between Avon and the group, ‘Super Heroes To Kids In Ohio.’

The City, Mayor Jensen and local celebrities assisted children who are battling illness and adversity rescue the community leaders from dastardly comic book villains like Lex Luther, the Joker and more.

In all, nearly 40 popular comic book characters (both heroes and villains) took part in short, scripted scenes that played out at various points throughout the city. It ended with a big photo session at the Avon Aquatic Facility.

“This is an event that gives these kids a chance to forget about their troubles for a few hours and just have a good time,” said Mayor Jensen, who was ‘kidnapped’ by The Joker and painted with lipstick during lunch at Avon Isle.

With members from all different walks of life, it is the goal of ‘Super Heroes To Kids In Ohio’  to spread good will by simple acts of kindness, the recognition of individuals who have battled through adversity, and to encourage the involvement of ‘community’ to make a positive difference in the lives of others, especially children.

This official 501(c)3 non-profit charity makes costumed visits to children’s hospitals, special needs centers, and various charitable events whenever needed, all in an attempt to bring hope and smiles to children and families.

With nearly 500 visits and events to their credit since inception in 2010, they have been honored with awards by The American Red Cross. The Cleveland Police, and Murray Ridge.

Partnering with the City of Avon, special recognition was given to over 20 ‘Superhero’ kids who saved the city!

“It is a tremendous honor for our group,” said co-founder Brian Chulik of the group’s partnership with Avon. “As one of our other co-founders, Jimmy Myers says: the kids are the real heroes!”

Pam Fechter, one of the event organizers for the city, reported that the day was a huge success for the kids and plans are already being discussed for next year.

Adding to the fun was the addition of celebrity bad guys like attorney Tim Misney (‘I will make them pay!’) as Lex Luther and Channel 19’s Shelby Miller as Lois Lane.

Super Heroes To Kids In Ohio is a 501(c)3 non-profit not affiliated with DC Comics, Marvel, Disney, or any other similar group or company. All acts are done in a charitable tone.
