Both the Avon and Bay High football teams are closing in on perfection this week as the regular season draws to an end with each team boasting 9-0 records.
For Avon, the Eagles celebrated Senior Night last Friday with a 35-7 win against visiting Amherst to clinch a share of the Southwestern Conference championship. Avon travels to Berea-Midpark this Friday where they can wrap up the outright title with a win over the 4-5 Titans. This is the team’s second straight SWC title since entering the conference in 2015.
Avon’s football program is the best in the area. The Eagles enter this week’s game ranked first in the OHSAA Div. II Region 6 rankings and they are also top rated in the Ohio AP Div. 2 poll. Avon has now won 10 or more games in each of the past 8 seasons to fashion a 85-10 record since 2010 as they enter this week’s regular season finale.
For Bay, the Rockets can wrap up a 10-0 mark with a win over Valley Forge as the 3-6 Patriots visit Bay Friday. Bay is ranked 6th in the state by the Associated Press in Div. 3. Bay is third in the OHSAA Div. III Region 10 poll and is playoff-bound. The Rockets rolled to 9-0 with a 28-17 win at Revere last weekend. A win this Friday will give Bay the first 10-0 record in school history! Bay has recorded ZERO road losses in three seasons and has posted 15 straight regular season wins. For this year’s senior class, the Rockets have lodged a school record 26 wins (and counting)!
