Westlake Police Nail Drug Traffickers

Westlake Police nailed a pair of drug traffickers last week as the war against illegal substance abuse continues.

– On 2/23/18, officers stopped a vehicle after noticing that it was dragging a part of the front bumper. With the assistance of a WPD K9, the officers detected drug activity involving the vehicle and driver. The investigation revealed that the 34yo from Lorain was in possession of numerous doses of Suboxone, which is an opioid, along with suspected Adderall pills and marijuana. None of these were prescribed to him. The suspect was arrested and charged with felony drug possession.

– On 2/24/18, while patrolling a gas station parking lot near I-90, an officer discovered that a vehicle parked by a gas pump was entered as stolen out of Michigan. The male operator was taken into custody without incident. While inventorying the vehicle officers discovered more than 2000 suspected ecstasy pills along with marijuana and possible fraudulent credit cards. The 43 year old out of Detroit was charged with felony drug trafficking as well as receiving stolen property for his possession of the vehicle. The investigation may still yield additional fraud charges.

Objects Hurled from Crocker Park Building

On 2/24/18 officers responded to a report of persons on top of a building at Crocker Park who were throwing objects from the roof as well as yelling obscenities. With the help of Crocker Park Security, 2 juvenile males from Westlake were located hiding behind an air handling unit. They were taken into custody and later turned over to their parents. Charges of trespass were recommended to Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.

Drunk Driver Strikes Police Car

On 2/24/18 at approx. 11:52PM, a WPD cruiser on patrol was struck from behind on Center Ridge Rd. When additional officers arrived and they spoke with the 23yo male driving the suspect car, they noted that he was extremely unsteady on his feet and had to be stopped from walking in the middle of the street. The male was field tested and arrested for OVI and traffic offenses. He later submitted a breath sample and was found to be more than 2 ½ times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The suspect male was not injured. The officer was treated and released from the hospital.

Employer Threatened with Knife

On 2/25/18, a manager of a Center Ridge Rd. pizza shop reported that after he terminated an employee, that the male first threw a pan at him, then to make matters worse threatened the manager with a knife. No one was seriously injured and the fired employee left before officers arrived. The 30yo suspect from North Olmsted was soon located by officers driving in the area. He was arrested without further incident. During the inventory of the suspect’s vehicle, a replica firearm, and several knives were recovered. The male was charged with menacing, assault, and criminal trespass.


On 2/23/18 WPD received reports of a Hit-Skip MVA on Columbia at Hilliard Blvd. The complainant said that the other driver hit her vehicle from behind then told her that there was no damage. When the victim told the suspect that she was calling the police, he jumped in his car, drove over a curb, and fled the scene. Luckily, the caller noted the plate on the fleeing car. Officers soon tracked down the 17yo from Westlake who admitted to making a mistake. He was cited with Failure to Maintain Assured Clear Distance and Hit-Skip.
