The Avon Local Schools Board of Education recently voted (April 30) to award a three-year contract, effective Aug. 1, 2018, to Erin Holzhauer to become the new principal at Avon East Elementary School (grade 1-2).
Holzhauer is coming “home” to Avon. She began her teaching career in the district at Avon Heritage Elementary School and also worked as an intervention specialist at Avon High School. She also coached softball at Avon High School. Currently, she is the principal at New London High School.
“I am very excited to be back in Avon,” said Holzhauer. “Avon believed in me 11 years ago when I was hired as an Intervention Specialist, and they believed in me again with this leadership opportunity. I feel so grateful and can’t wait to be back ‘home’ with an awesome team of people.
“When I think of first and second-graders, I smile! My own children, Ty and Tatum, are in first and second-grade and I think these grade levels are magical. There is so much willingness to explore and take risks at this age. I am ready for high-fives, fist bumps, and all the positive energy these children will bring to my life.”
Avon Local Schools Superintendent Mike Laub is excited to have Holzhauer back in the school district. “Erin will be an outstanding leader at Avon East,” said Laub. “She is positive, energetic and student-centered. I’m excited to have her back on our team and in a leadership role.”
Holzhauer earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University (Mild to Moderate Intervention Specialist) and a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is in the process of completing (August) an Education Specialist degree from Bowling Green State University.
“I want to learn as much about the Avon East staff, families and students as possible,” said Holzhauer regarding her goals for the upcoming new school year. “I am excited to be a part of
the day-to- day life at East and believe it’s my job to make each individual who is part of our building feel appreciated, valued, and loved. Beyond that, I envision growing each year with our team in a positive and collaborative manner where the whole child is the focus of our efforts.”
Holzhauer is the mother of two children, ages 7 and 8, and resides in LaGrange. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, yoga and sports.
