Avon Tree Lighting Celebrates the Season

Golden Tickets winners siblings Jamison and Zoey with Santa

The City of Avon’s annual Tree Lighting Festival was presented by the French Creek Foundation on the afternoon and evening of Dec. 3.

It was an unforgettable time for siblings Jamison and Zoey, holders of the Golden Tickets which entitled them to ride with Santa from the community gazebo to the holiday festivities at Olde Avon Village. Once there, they shared in the honor of flipping the switch to illuminate the 2021 city Christmas display!

The children learned of their winning letter to Santa when Mayor Bryan Jensen and Santa visited Avon East Elementary School to announce the Golden Ticket winners. Winners were selected from among all the letters to Santa submitted by students stating their personal reasons for the honor.

The night was truly one of holiday magic as hundreds of children and the community groups they represented joined in the parade from the gazebo to Olde Avon Village. Seasonal sounds from school musical groups joyfully filled the air and hundreds of guests gathered around the stage at Old Avon Village where they were welcomed by Mayor Bryan Jensen and French Creek Foundation President Clint Gault. Then, Jamison and Zoey flipped the switch to the city holiday lights as a cheer from the crowd went up.

The rest of the evening was filled with family fun like visits with Santa, crafts, a gingerbread house contest, pony rides, live reindeer exhibit, fairy tale characters and complimentary food and beverages.

It was a great way to bring the community together in a post-pandemic celebration that was embraced enthusiastically by all. Thank you to the French Creek Foundation and the City of Avon for a wonderful night!
