LCCC Empty Bowls: Seize the Clay and Stock the Cupboard Event

What started as a grassroots campaign to enlighten people about world hunger has evolved into a worldwide effort that reminds folks there are always “empty bowls” in the world.

Join us at the Lorain County Community College Norton Culinary Arts Center from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, October 6 for the “Seize the Clay and Stock the Cupboard” event.

With a $20 donation, guests can select one handmade bowl of their choice crafted by LCCC’s own students and instructors, as well as local potters. Guests can also enjoy a variety soups made by the LCCC Culinary Arts department.

Additional pottery will also be available for sale with all proceeds benefiting LCCC’s on-campus food pantry, the Commodore Cupboard.

Empty Bowls started as a grassroots effort in 1990 by a Michigan high school arts teacher, John Hartom. He, along with Linda Blackburn, wanted guests to choose a ceramic bowl made by students in exchange for a small donation and a simple meal of soup and bread. This served as a reminder of all of the empty bowls in the world due to hunger. Since then, Empty Bowl events have been and continue to be held worldwide, with millions of dollars being raised to combat hunger.

Guests are asked to register at www.lorainccc.edu/emptybowls.
