Formerly the iconic Students of the Year campaign, Student Visionaries of the Year is a groundbreaking philanthropic leadership development program for high school students. Every year, courageous young leaders embark on an exciting 7-week journey with a goal to create a world without blood cancers, striving to earn the Student Visionary of the Year title.

“Shave It or Save It” for Cancer

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in Bay High School’s Team United fundraising efforts for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. An all-school assembly was held two weeks ago with BHS teachers getting a pie to the face along with a “Shave It” event. Members of the BHS family shaved heads and beards to raise funds. Mr. Martin, Coach Rutt, and Mr. Allen even put their beards on the line for a vote to ‘shave it or save it’!

“This year, Mr. Rutt (Bay High School Football Coach), Mr. Allen (Bay High Band Director, has not shaved his beard since 2004) and Mr. Martin (Bay High School Principal), have agreed to let you decide the future of their beards!”

The event raised more than $15,000 to donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

“Thank you to everyone who donated and supported our efforts to raise funds for LLS! Today was a huge success and a lot of fun. We raised some great money to help fight cancer! It is always amazing to see what happens when a group of teenagers rallies a school and a community!”

BHS Team United held a fun run on Sat., March 11 at Bradley Park. “Thanks to everyone who supported our first ever .1K race to fight cancer! It was a great morning and a fun event for all ages! The winner finished with a course record of 16 seconds! Mr. Chilton had great running form at the end, but finished slightly off the pace of the rest of the field!”

Both events were hosted by Bay High’s Team United to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers by raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
