Avon High Student Wins Art Show Honors

“Just Wait for It”

The 53rd Governor’s Art Show statewide judging recently took place in Columbus.  The State of Ohio is divided into 15 regions, and a total of 8,301 pieces of artwork were submitted. Of those submitted, only 16% advance to state level.  There were 401 winners at the state level.

Avon High School (AHS) is pleased to announce we earned two wins in this very prestigious art show.

AHS junior Isabella Keller is a state winner, not once, but twice in this year’s show.

Her works of art will be on exhibit at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower, across from the State Capitol from April through the end of May.

Bella completed “Just Wait for It” a charcoal and conte crayon portrait in Advanced 2D class this past fall in response to the class studying German Expressionist, Kathe Kollowitz.

“Landscape of Life-Hurricane Michael”

Her watercolor painting, “Landscape of Life-Hurricane Michael” was an assignment for Painting class and was completed last month.  She chose an image she took while helping with hurricane relief efforts in Florida.

Keller is now invited to the awards ceremony at The Riffe Center, Capitol Theatre in April.

Keller’s talent is easy to recognize, but the humble nature in which she approaches her work and the thoughtful images she produces are truly one of a kind.

Avon High Merit Finalists

Avon High School is pleased to announce three (3) seniors, Claire Mossbruger, Sean Wilson and Preston Yug, are now finalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of finalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

To become a finalist, semifinalists submitted detailed applications that provided information regarding the student’s academic record, school and community involvement, leadership abilities, employment, and awards received.
