Bay High Students Help Bay Village Dog Kennel with Design Work
Two Bay High School students in Greg Hildebrandt’s Advanced Digital Media class recently had the opportunity to work on a real client project, creating artwork for the nonprofit organization the New Bay Village Dog Kennel Fund.
Senior Mia Gulley was the principal illustrator and designer, and Senior Kristina Laraway consulted and was there for the initial meeting with Bay Village resident Nancy Brown, who is coordinating the fundraising efforts for the New Bay Village Dog Kennel Fund, an official 501c3 organization. The students created original artwork for the nonprofit that they turned into a flyer, poster and door hanger.
“Both of these students collaborate together on a variety of projects,” said Hildebrandt. “They are great communicators with loads of creative energy that they bring to class every day.”
The projects were created in the Advanced Digital Media class using iMac workstations and Adobe Illustrator software. The class is new to Bay High School’s Art Department this school year. Hildebrandt says the class “allows students who already have taken photography or graphic design to further their knowledge and skills and contribute to ‘real projects’ in the community.”
Student designer Mia Gulley was excited to work on this project and gain a portfolio piece through this experiential learning opportunity.
“I love dogs and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to help a local Bay nonprofit, as well as gaining real-world experience since I am pursuing a career in design,” said Mia.
Brown was brought to tears when she first saw the artwork that the students created.
“We are extremely pleased and impressed with how great the students and art is and how it helped us to promote the purpose of The New Bay Village Dog Kennel Fund,” Brown said. “The students and Mr. Greg Hildebrandt were professional and created a beautiful piece to help raise funds and awareness.”
Editor’s Note: Bay High School’s Key Club has volunteered to distribute the door hangers throughout the Bay Village community. The door hangers will provide information about the New Bay Village Dog Kennel and its fundraising efforts.
