The City of Westlake’s “Are You OK?” program proved its effectiveness again with a successful save. After a senior citizen failed to answer her daily call, the Westlake Police Department (WPD) was immediately alerted. Despite several attempts to reach her, there was no response, prompting officers to be dispatched to her residence.
Upon arrival, the senior citizen called for help from behind her apartment door. Using a pre-arranged lockbox, officers quickly entered the apartment, reassuring and comforting the frightened individual until Westlake Fire arrived to transport her to the hospital for further care.
This incident highlights the seamless collaboration between the Westlake Police Department, Westlake Community Services, and Westlake Fire, all working together to protect and serve those who live, work, and visit our city.
The “Are You OK?” program is a free home check calling service for senior citizens and other qualified residents, managed by the Westlake Police Department in conjunction with the Westlake Center for Community Services. Participants receive a daily call to check on their welfare. If a call goes unanswered, the Police Department is notified, and an officer is dispatched for a personal check-in visit.
If you or a loved one would benefit from this valuable service, please call 440-899-3544 and ask for the outreach coordinator. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
