School Supts. Weigh in on Dept. of Education Dismantling

What is our local Supt. of Schools’ take on the Dept of Ed dismantling announced by the Trump administration last week? How might it affect area schools as well as schools across the country in general? Is there a way to address this without getting too political? Not asking to create a controversy, just straight info.

Here is the answer from Westlake Supt. Dr. Scott Goggin:

“This has been a topic that has received a great deal of attention with recent events. I can speak to the Westlake City Schools. Overall, it is far too early to determine the impact on our school district. We do receive funding from the US Department of Education in three main areas: Title I, Special Education, and Lunch programs. On average, that will be about $2-2.5 million. At this point, we do not know if funding will stay the same, be reduced, or increased. Regardless of these changes, the Westlake City School District will continue to serve lunches, provide special educational services, and deliver an excellent education for all students.”

Avon Lake Supt. of Schools Joelle Magyar: “I do not know if I can say things any better than my colleague has already stated!”

Bay Village Supt. of Schools Scott Prebles: “I am disappointed about the executive order intended to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, yet I am hopeful Congress will not allow this shutdown to occur. Our most vulnerable students are the ones who will be most affected if this agency is shut down.”
