David Anthony McConoughey, March 28, 1978 – August 1, 2025, was a beloved physician at UH St. John Medical Center. He served hundreds of patients through the UH SJMC Emergency Dept. through his years of service.
David Anthony McConoughey, age 47, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, after a courageous battle with colorectal cancer.
Born in Chillicothe, OH, on March 28, 1978, David was raised in Milan, Ohio and went on to graduate from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He then received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Affectionately known as “Dr. Dave” by many, he worked over 15 years at St. John’s Medical Center in Westlake, OH in Emergency Medicine and then went on to lead the Intensive Care Unit. He was a respected and loved member of the St. John’s team, known for his dedication to his patients, their families, and his coworkers. He valued the friendships he developed with his coworkers over the years, leading to lifelong memories. David had a generous heart and helped others whenever he could.
David loved golfing, traveling, sports, and spending time with family and friends, often while enjoying good food. He enjoyed visiting Disney World, running marathons, and having dry-aged ribeye’s with a nice glass of red wine. Sharing meals with family and friends was always a priority for David. He was an avid OSU fan, a Cavs season ticket holder, and an active member of Journey Church in Avon, Ohio.
David’s kind soul and generosity will be remembered by all who were blessed to be a part of his amazing life. Beloved son of Ed & Marianne (Kasunic) McConoughey of Milan, OH; brothers Stephen (Cara Huff) of Woodstock, GA and Jeremy (Tori Conley) of LaGrange, OH; proud Uncle D to Eli and Sam McConoughey and dearest friend to many!
