The City of Avon rang in the Christmas Season in fine style with a community gala presented by the French Creek Foundation at Olde Avon Village Saturday evening.
The tree lighting festival offered lots of happy attractions, including performances by Avon School musical groups, Anna & Elsa from Frozen, a Gingerbread House contest and a chance to pet a reindeer!
Topping the fun was a kid’s parade that followed Santa through the Village and to the stage where Mayor Bryan Jensen and French Creek Foundation President Clint W. Gault led a community countdown to the tree lighting.
They were joined by special guest Heritage Elementary School third-grader, Ma’Kyle Grondin, 8, who rode with Santa this year!
“Three, two, one….We Believe!” That was the crescendo as Mayor Jensen asked the happy crowd to face the holiday trees along Detroit Road as the magical switch was turned!
Then, it was on to visits with Santa, hot chocolate, pizza and holiday fun.
“Thanks to all that made this year’s Tree Lighting a huge success,” said Mayor Jensen via twitter. “Clint Gault, your family & The French Creek Foundation are amazing. Thank you to our police and fire for being there protecting and watching over all of us. Avon schools choirs you were great! To the sponsors, ‘Thank you.’”
“May this Tree Lighting Festival be just the beginning to a magical holiday season for you and your family,” added Gault. “I would like to extend a warm thank you to all of the sponsors and volunteers. This event is only possible because of your generosity and commitment to our community.”
