Big Trucks Bring Out Little Faces in Avon Lake

Jaws of life demo

There’s nothing like a bunch of big trucks to bring smiles to a lot of little faces!

The 2018 Big Trucks Day was a hit in Avon Lake on Sat., Sept. 15 as fire and safety equipment assembled at the Avon Lake Safety Center on Walker Road from 10-2 for kids and families to tour.

Avon Lake Fire & Police vehicles and equipment, County sheriff and FBI vehicles, three different helicopters from area health agencies and more made it a very busy day beneath beautiful blue late-summer skies.

The crowd was fantastic, parking across the street at Towne Center with shuttle service bringing families over to the lot.

Free hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks were also offered with nearly 2,000 hot dogs consumed!

A highlight of the day was a demonstration of the Avon Lake Fire Department’s Jaws of Life team, extracting a practice victim from a wrecked car.

The day was part of the Avon Lake 200 year of bicentennial activities.
