Memory Support Director, Maria Sady
Genesis HealthCare West Bay has a specialized Dementia Unit run by Memory Support Director, Maria Sady.
As the Memory Support Program Director, it is her responsibility to ensure that all the residents are not only safe but are in an environment that is conducive to their needs.
The West Bay unit is a branded/therapeutic unit. The criteria for being on a branded unit are that residents need to be able to participate in the programs as well as have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia with no overt behaviors. Each member of the West Bay dedicated care team has specialized training. Their consistent staffing model promotes relationships between staff and residents which provides consistency that is so important to persons with dementia.
The unit is based on focusing on the resident’s strength and abilities. Rehabilitations Therapists are available to enhance each individual’s functioning and abilities through Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies.
West Bay encourages residents to participate in a variety of individual and group activities. They provide activities 7 days a week, with several days till 8:00 p.m. The unit is staffed with dementia trained, caring and compassionate people who truly enjoy working with this population.
Maria has been working for Genesis HealthCare since 2013. But she started her career in long term care in 1984 as a certified Nursing Assistant. She currently is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and a Certified Activity Director. She has also received a Certificate of Achievement as an Activity Director-Board Certified. She also is a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certified Instructor through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
