University Hospitals St. John Medical Center hosted its first-ever Wound Care Fair on Wed. October 16.
“This was the first annual wound fair,” reports Nurse Kelsey Conn.
The Fair was presented by the hospital Skin Committee team.
“The skin committee provides education to the nursing staff. We wanted to do something fun for the staff to enjoy. We thought it would be fun to have the vendors come in and provide education in conjunction with the committee members,” said Kelsey.
Vendors included HillRom, Coloplast, Smith and Nephew and KCI. “The vendors brought educational materials and then each nursing unit provided a poster board of education,” reports Kelsey.
“Some of the education provided included wound staging, pressure injuries, wound vacs, ostomy and skin care, bed usage and UH care documentation. All of the inpatient nursing units were involved.”
There was also time for camaraderie. “We had educational games such as Operation, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy,” said Kelsey. “This was our first food truck at SJMC- Cocky’s Bagels and Sandwiches.
“We had a great turn out and can’t wait to do this again!”
