To the Editor:
A newspaper is a beautiful piece of art. The touch of the paper, all that paper without the black ink smearing the hands, is a wonderful gift. All those who worked so hard to create and write each section, page, and column. Car and furniture ads, piles of colorful insert ads with even more ads where readers can save hundreds of dollars on pizza, cosmetics and pop. And, the crossword puzzle. Has anyone ever got it completely right with answers in ink? Yikes. The comics never age, Crankshaft, Garfield, Peanuts, those characters must be 100 years old by now, maybe. Readers are gifted with local, travel, real estate, help wanted, community, obituaries, births and words that might take an hour or more to enjoy reading. Yes, the politics and news might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the history behind a newspaper is a precious gift that must never ever go away. Ever.
