Community West Foundation: Food for the Spirit

Without the rain, there would be no rainbows. This colorful work of art was created by the resident children of Cleveland Christian Home It reminds us to stay hopeful and dream of all the possibilities life has to offer.

Community West Foundation is well-known as the west side’s leading philanthropic organization. The Foundation funds many of our west shore charitable organizations and makes possible support for hungry, the homeless and the underserved.

But where does Community West Foundation find its spiritual fuel? The staff and Board of Directors are guided by the words in Matthew 25:35-40: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me… Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

The Foundation is also fuelled by the spirit of art. Their Westlake offices are filled with artworks that inspire, that provoke compassion, that lift the spirit. Here is a look at artwork that makes a difference in the Community West Foundation mission.

: This glowing candle is the last of the featured artworks currently hanging in the halls of our offices but it is certainly not the least. If anything, this candle represents our motto of #IlluminatingHope through everything we do. Thank you to all of our #CWFGrantees who have created this art for the daily inspiration it brings.

: This contrasting piece of art was made by participants in the Art Enrichment Program at the Center for Artful Living. This program is housed within the Carolyn L. Farrell Foundation for Brain Health which was developed to empower individuals living with dementia and other cognitive issues.

: The beauty of nature is Earth’s naturally occurring works of art. These sun prints transformed leaves and other items found in nature into art you can hang on the wall!

: Here comes the sun[flowers]. This multi-canvas image reminds us that there are brighter days ahead! Who else is ready for summer?

: This colorful abstract painting comes to us from the participants in the AHH! Art Helps and Heals Program at the Far West Center. The bold colors and the texture make it appear as though it’s moving, making it easy to get lost in. Check it out for yourself next time you’re at our offices!

: Adults managing severe mental illness are able to use art to express their emotions. This beautiful piece evokes a sense of calm and peace when we look at it. What does it make you feel?
