Runaway Driver Strikes Two Vehicles, Injures Victim
On 7/3/22 at approx. 9:30PM WPD received a call from Avon PD indicating that their officers were chasing an SUV on Avon Rd and were headed toward Westlake. They had responded to a call of a female passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle on that street. The female driver took off after the officers arrived. Avon PD lost the car after it made it into Westlake. Westlake officers located the described vehicle in the area of Crocker and Detroit Rds. WPD officers briefly stopped the vehicle on Crocker just south of Detroit Rd. When the officers approached, the vehicle took off again S/B on Crocker. The officers chased the vehicle briefly before calling off the pursuit due to the suspect’s dangerous driving and the amount of traffic on the roadway. The suspect SUV struck 2 vehicles in the area of Crocker and Wyndgate. The suspect female, a 36yo Brooklyn, OH resident, was arrested after she crawled out of her vehicle. She was taken to the hospital to be checked out before being transported to the WPD Jail. Unfortunately, a citizen in one of the innocent vehicles struck by the suspect sustained life threatening injuries. She is in stable condition at UH Hospitals Main Campus. The 36yo female was charged by Westlake PD with Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Felony fleeing, OVI and various traffic charges. She was arraigned in Rocky River Municipal Court and eventually transported to the Cuyahoga County Jail. The suspect had 2 prior OVI convictions before this incident.
Passed Out at Taco Bell
On 7/3/22 at approx. 2AM WPD officers responded to a report of a male passed out behind the wheel in the drive thru of Taco Bell on Columbia Rd. Officers spoke with patrons in line waiting for their food and obtained a description of the suspect vehicle. One of the patrons had already made contact with the driver. The described male said that he had not been passed out but did admit to being exhausted and having a “long week.” The 32 yo North Olmsted man showed signs of intoxication and was field tested. He was arrested for OVI and transported to the Westlake City Jail. The driver tested over 2 times the legal limit when he submitted to a breath test. He was charged with OVI and Prohibited Blood Alcohol Content.
Police Nab Fleeing Shoplifters
On 6/22/22 at approx. 5:45PM officers responded to the Marc’s Store on Detroit Rd for a reported theft. Employees called to relay that 2 customers had left the store with an air conditioner unit and laundry detergent without paying. They left in a vehicle which was soon stopped by Rocky River PD on I90. Stolen items were recovered from the vehicle and both occupants were arrested. A 55yo male was charged with theft as was a 48yo female. Both parties listed Cleveland addresses. The female also had outstanding larceny and theft warrants from previous incidents.
Passed Out at the Wheel
On 7/1/22 WPD received a call from the fire department that they were responding to a report of a male slumped over the wheel of a vehicle on I90 at Columbia. Officers arrived to find the stopped vehicle. The driver was awake but appeared to be confused. He denied falling asleep at the wheel but appeared intoxicated. The driver was field tested and arrested for OVI. His vehicle was towed while he was being transported to the Westlake Jail. The 39yo Cleveland resident refused a breath test and was released after receiving a court date in Rocky River Municipal Court.
Bay Officer Injured in Arrest
On 6/22/2022, Bay Village PD Officers were dispatched to the area of Dover Center Road and Knickerbocker Road on a report of an argument between an adult couple. Upon arrival in the area, Officers identified a female out of Brooklyn, Ohio and a male out of Elyria. The female was located in her car on Knickerbocker Road and the male was located in CVS and then stepped outside to speak with Officers. Officers found that the male, identified as William Anderson, had a felony arrest warrant out of the State of Mississippi and another felony arrest warrant out of Elyria. As the Officers were attempting to arrest William Anderson, a struggle ensued and Anderson produced a knife, which struck one of the Officers, causing superficial wounds. The Officer and Anderson went to a local hospital. The Officer was released from the hospital and is OK. Anderson was taken to the BVPD jail upon being released from the hospital and then ultimately transported to the Cuyahoga County Jail. Anderson was subsequently indicted by a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury for Felonious Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Tampering with Evidence. He is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $100,000.00 bond.
Driver Crashes Bay Days Barricade
On July 4, 2022 at 9:51pm, Bay Village Police were working traffic control for the Bay Days Festival when a motorist went through a closed intersection. Police were able to stop the motorist, a 58 year old Lodi resident. After an investigation, police suspected that the male was under the influence. The male failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. On station, the male submitted to an Intoxilyzer test which showed a .116 % blood alcohol content. The male was later released to a sober adult. The male is facing charges in Rocky River Municipal Court.
SWAT Team Responds to Firearm Discharge
On July 9, 2022 at 1:38am, Bay Village Police were dispatched to the 25000 block of Wolf Road on report of domestic violence. The female victim reported her husband was intoxicated, was physical with her and was loading a firearm. Officers arrived and met the victim outside the home, later transporting her safely away from the scene. Officers attempted to make contact with the husband but he would not come outside, nor could officers reach him. During their attempt, officers heard a shot ring out from inside the home. Additional personnel were called in, including the Westshore Enforcement Bureau (W.E.B.) SWAT team and negotiators. Once specialty units were in place, they advanced on the home, entering and successfully taking the male into custody without incident. He was later charged with Domestic Violence, Inducing Panic, Aggravated Menacing, Using Weapons while Intoxicated, and Discharging Firearms. He will face charges in Rocky River Municipal Court.
Bay Police Comment on Media Personality Assault
On July 9, 2022, at 5:41pm, Bay Village Police were dispatched to the 31000 block of Roberta Drive on report of a male in cardiac arrest. Officers arrived and found that the male in question, Jon Loufman, had been physically assaulted. Loufman was able to communicate that he was attacked by his adult son, Daniel Loufman. Bay Village Officers spoke to the victim’s wife, Julia Loufman who was on scene. She was taken into custody for questioning and later charged with Obstruction of Official Business. An arrest warrant was issued for the victim’s 32 year old son who was taken into custody early the next morning. Daniel Loufman was seen at Rocky River Municipal Court where he was given a 1 million dollar bond and bound over to Cuyahoga County Court. He was transported to and is being held at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center. Julia Loufman was also seen at Rocky River Municipal Court. She was later released after posting a $30,000 bond. Bay Village Detectives are investigating.
