The Magic of Gardening

The Magic of Gardening has really taken hold in Avon with the growth of the Avon East Courtyard Garden started last year with the seed of an idea from 2nd grader Will Powell.

The community has rallied around this garden with volunteers, students and families all enjoying the satisfaction of gardening.

The magic has now expanded to the Avon Early Learning Center, where a garden is being established there. Here’s a look at how things are growing in Avon!

“The Girl Scouts worked very hard at the Avon Early Learning Center garden this weekend,” reports Neely Powell, Will’s mom. “The first troop (50817) painted the seating stumps rainbow colors and the second troop (50685) sanded and painted 2 picnic tables with a beautiful rainbow/flower/cloud theme. We are truly blessed and thankful for these amazing girls and their talent!! Special thanks to John Kaminski for sanding the tree stumps and Jill Chinnici Anamasi for sanding the picnic tables. The Girl Scouts have been a huge part of our garden success.”

Heirloom pumpkins, melons and squash seedlings made their way to the Avon East courtyard garden thanks to Karen Conant. “We appreciate all that you do for us, Karen,” says Neely. “Thank you Mariaka De Vonk for planting and always tending to the garden. Thankful for Cyndy Wells for donating our soil (best mom). And Jerry Galant for building the beds. Heart is full! This garden is ready for school to start.”

Thank you Stephanie Patterson and son, Camden, for weeding at the garden last week! We really appreciate your help and we hope that you enjoyed your visit.
