The Westlake Police Department’s Community Police Academy is a free, hands-on program where participants learn directly from patrol officers, detectives and civilian staff members about what their jobs entail and how a police department functions. Participants will get experience in crime scene processing, self-defense, firearms instruction, K-9 operations, drone operations and detective bureau investigations. Applications are due by Friday, Aug. 19. Classes will be held Wednesdays, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. beginning on Aug. 31, 2022. Anyone 21+ with no criminal record may apply. The graduation ceremony will be held on the final night, Nov. 16, 2022, which family and friends will be invited to attend.
