UH St. John Medical Center in Westlake is a busy place, supported in a big way by the priceless help of a large, active corps of volunteers.

These volunteers perform a number of vital hospitals activities which enhance patient care and ease the workload of hospital staff. Patient transport, manning information desks and even sitting with patients in need of support are just some of their roles.

These committed people are honored once a year at a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. This year’s luncheon took place at the Westlake Community Services Center and feature a delicious buffet meal. Awards and recognitions were also part of the event.

The President’s Call to Service Award Winners

“We were excited to have the Volunteer Appreciation recognition luncheon at a new venue this year. The Westlake Community Center was an excellent choice,” said Penny Evans, Volunteer Services Manager:

“There are over 150 volunteers at UH St. John Medical Center who are a wonderful and devoted group of people who have served over 25,600 hours in 2022. The hospital would not be the same without their assistance and compassion they show to our patients and staff. We publically thank them for all they do for us and the community.”

A highlight was the presentation of the President’s Call to Service Award for over 4,000 hours of volunteer service donated in a lifetime.

Recipients are Linda Whelan, Janet Bailey, Lois Gulling, Lynn Brian, Dick Lewis, Larry Senko, Gail Schenk, Monica Schilkowski.

Honored as the volunteer with the most hours Jackie Borzecki, with 15,000 hours. Joyce Holod was recognized for 10,500 hours and Marti Choban and Carol Riorden were pinned for 7,500 hours.
