Class of 2024 Hall of Fame includes 4 Athletic, 3 Distinguished and 1 Team
The Westlake Alumni Association has announced 8 new members to the Westlake Alumni Hall of Fame. On Friday February 9th between the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys basketball game, the eight new inductees will be introduced. The formal induction dinner ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 3rd at The LaCentre as part of Homecoming Weekend.
In the Distinguished Category:
Wendy Shiba, Class of 1968. Exemplary student-scholar in high school. Involved in numerous activities including Yearbook. Graduate of Temple University Law School. Went on to a distinguished career as attorney and executive for major corporations. Received numerous awards from American Bar Association. Wendy has been an advocate for women and diversity.
Will Ryan. Class of 1967. Will had distinguished career in Hollywood. Provided voices for short animated projects including Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore and the Oscar-nominated animated film Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Nominated for Primetime Emmy as part of Nickelodeon’s World of Dr. Seuss. 2 Gold Records as part of Cactus County Cowboys. Will passed away at age 72 in 2021.
Jenni Meno-Sand. Class of 1989. Jenni was a world-class pairs skater with her partner and now husband Todd Sand. USA Pairs Champ from 1994 to 1996. Silver medalist at World Championship in 1998. Competed in 3 Olympic games, 1992, 1994 and 1998.
In the Athletic Category:
Ron Laraway. Class of 1979. Multi-sport athlete. Averaged 25 points a game in senior year. Basketball MVP of the SWC, All State and graduated as the all-time single season scoring leader. Also, outstanding quarterback who later played at North Carolina State. Frank Frostino. Class of 1991. Exceled in soccer. MVP of SWC, All State and High School All American. Outstanding scorer and midfielder. Went on to All MAC performer at Bowling Green. Kelsey Fenix Cameron. Class of 2004. Multi-sport athlete in soccer, basketball and fast pitch. Exceled in soccer. SWC All-Conference performer multi -years. All State and High School All American. Went on to All SEC soccer performer at University of Kentucky. Currently Head Coach at Belmont University.
Lauren Golick. Class of 2013. Outstanding tennis player. Placed in the top four her 1st three years and then was Girls State Tennis Champ in her senior year. Named the Plain Dealer Player of the Year three times. Was 129-14 in her matches at WHS. Went on to Cleveland State University.
And in the Team Category:
Girls Basketball Team of 1982-1983. This team played in the State Final 4 in 1983. The farthest for any basketball team in school history. The team went 18-2 in the 1982-1983 season led by six senior players. Team averaged 64 points per game while only giving up 37 points per game. It was coached by Bill Shollenberger, the 1st Girls basketball coach in program history. Bill led by a “Yes We Can” philosophy.
The Alumni Association is looking forward to a wonderful night celebrating all of the inductees on both February 9th and on October 3rd. The public is welcome to both events.
