As we bid farewell to another academic year, Westlake City School District is preparing for a month of celebrations, ceremonies, and special events that capture the spirit and achievements of our students from preschool to high school.
As we race toward the finale, our schools are buzzing with excitement, anticipation, and a touch of bittersweet nostalgia. Here is a glimpse of the calendar of events that will shape the end of the academic year.
April 30: Preschool End of Year Program— Tiny tots showcase big progress at the Preschool End of Year Program. Families gather to celebrate the adorable milestones and the exciting journey ahead for these young learners.
May 1: College Decision Day — The halls of Westlake High are awash with a rainbow of college colors as seniors proudly display their future alma maters. College Decision Day is a pivotal moment, a culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and the beginning of new adventures.
May 4: Music a la Mode — In the midst of all these events, don’t miss Music a la Mode! This event showcases captivating performances from our talented music ensembles, complete with cake and ice cream. It’s a musical treat for the senses and a wonderful way to appreciate the arts in our community.
May 11: Prom at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (6:30 PM – 11:00 PM) — The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame transforms into a magical venue for an unforgettable evening of dancing and celebration. From 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM, seniors will create memories to last a lifetime amidst the backdrop of music history.
After Prom at Urban Air (11:30 PM – 2:30 AM) — The festivities don’t end with Prom! After the main event, seniors continue the celebration at Urban Air from 11:30 PM to 2:30 AM. Thrilling activities and a fun-packed atmosphere ensure the night is filled with laughter and joy.
May 16: Senior Awards Night (6:30 PM) — we gather to honor the outstanding achievements of our seniors. From academic excellence to extracurricular accomplishments, this night is dedicated to celebrating their hard work and dedication.
May 20 – The Board of Education will hold its Regular Meeting at 6pm preceded by
May 24: A Day of Celebrations — The day is packed with events starting with commencement practice, followed by a senior picnic filled with laughter and nostalgia. The day culminates in the cherished Westlake Elementary School Clap Out, a heartwarming tradition where younger students applaud the seniors as they walk the halls one last time.
May 25: Commencement (3:00 PM at CSU Wolstein Center) — Families, friends, and members of the community will join us in celebrating this momentous grand finale of the school year at 3:00 PM. Caps will fly, cheers will erupt, and dreams will soar as we proudly send off the Class of 2024 into the world.
But the celebration doesn’t end there. Westlake High School is not the only stage for final acts and new beginnings. Across the district, from preschool to middle school, there are more moments to cherish and milestones to celebrate.
May 29, May 31, June 3: Field Days — Laughter, games, and spirited activities sponsored and coordinated by the PTA fill the days as every elementary school student eagerly participates in the beloved Field Days.
June 3: Fourth Grade Party — The Westlake Rec Center is the place to be for a spectacular send-off for our fourth graders as they prepare to step into fifth grade, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
June 5: Fourth Grade Recognition and Clap-Out — Cheering and applause will fill the air as we celebrate and send off our fourth graders to their next great adventure.
June 10: 6th Grade Recognition — A special ceremony honors our sixth graders at Dover Elementary School as they prepare for the leap to middle school, marking the end of their intermediate school journey.
June 11: Field Day — The intermediate school’s year ends on a vibrant note with Field Day, a day filled with fun, friendship, and fond farewells.
As we approach the culmination of another school year, let us come together to applaud the achievements, celebrate the memories, and watch our students step into their bright futures. Every ending marks the beginning of new adventures, and Westlake High School is proud to be a part of each student’s journey.
