Westlake Alumni Association to Induct 8 New Members to the Hall of Fame

The Westlake Alumni Association has announced 8 new members to the Westlake Alumni Hall of Fame. They will be inducted on Oct. 3 at the annual Alumni Dinner to be held at LaCentre.

Congratulations to the inductees:

Distinguished Alumni

Will Ryan ‘67 – Will had a distinguished career in Hollywood. Provided voices for short animated projects including Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore and the Oscar-nominated animated film Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Nominated for Primetime Emmy as part of Nickelodeon’s World of Dr. Seuss. 2 Gold Records as part of Cactus County Cowboys. Will passed away in 2021.

Wendy Shiba ‘68 – Exemplary student-scholar in high school. Involved in numerous activities including Yearbook. Graduate of Temple University Law School. Went on to a distinguished career as attorney and executive for major corporations. Received numerous awards from American Bar Association. Wendy has been an advocate for women and diversity.

Jenni Meno-Sand ‘89 – Jenni was a world-class pairs skater with her partner and now husband Todd Sand. US National Pairs Champion from 1994 to 1996. Silver medalist at World Championship in 1998. Competed in 3 Olympic games, 1992, 1994 and 1998. Inducted in 2010, along with Todd, into the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame.

Athletic Alumni

Ron Laraway, ‘79 – Multi-sport athlete. Averaged 25 points a game in senior year before there was a 3-point line. Basketball MVP of the SWC, MVP of Sectional Tourney, All-Ohio in basketball. Graduated as the all-time single season scoring leader. Led his team to SWC basketball title. Also, outstanding quarterback who later played football at North Carolina State.

Frank Frostino, ‘91 – Exceled in soccer and helped establish Westlake as a top soccer program. Scored 24 goals as mid-fielder. 1st team All Conference as Jr & Sr. MVP of SWC. Sun Herald Player of the Year. All Ohio Performer. High School All American. Went on to play soccer at Bowling Green. 1st Team All- MAC his senior year.

Kelsey Fenix ‘04 – Multi-sport athlete in soccer, basketball and fast pitch. One of the most recognized athletes in WHS school history. Exceled in soccer. SWC All-Conference performer 4 times. All Ohio in soccer multiple times. 2003 High School All American. Went on to All-SEC soccer performer at University of Kentucky. Currently Head Coach at Belmont University.

Lauren Golick, ‘13 – Outstanding tennis player. Placed in the top four in Ohio her first three years and then was Girls State of Ohio Tennis Champ in her senior year. Named the Plain Dealer Tennis Player of the Year three times. Was 129-14 in her matches at WHS. Went on to Cleveland State University.

Team

1982-83 Girls Basketball Team – Played in the State Final 4 in 1983. The farthest for any basketball team in school history. The team went 18-2 in the 1982 led by six senior players. Team averaged 64 points per game while only giving up 37 points per game. It was coached by Bill Shollenberger. Bill led by a “Yes We Can” philosophy.
